Church of St. Nicholas (XVII century)
Church of St. Nicholas (XVII century)
It was built in 1640-1650. You can admire a statue of “Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows”, brought from Naples in 1726, whose rare and heavenly beauty merges with the touching expression of sorrow for the death of Jesus. In the 1700s, with regular rules, the Congregation of the Seven sorrows was created. And for the first time it was restored in 1889. On Good Fridays, in the morning the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is brought to the church of Saint Ursula for the liturgy, while in the evening it is carried in procession, along the Way of the Cross, in the streets of the town.
In 1965, Padre Pio decided to provide for the restoration of the statue, because he had a deep reverence and devotion. When the restoration was over, in the same year, he wanted to bless it personally. Precious is the copper door depicting some moments of the life of St. Nicholas. (St. Nicholas street)
